Everyone knows Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life, but what about his forgotten earlier film with a very similar theme? The hero is just an ordinary guy whom the press and the politicians take up, and then betray. He faces death on Christmas Eve in a howling blizzard. But Capra’s film is full of his warm humour and philosophy of life.
